Underground

Underground, term generally used for any secret political movement that seeks to overthrow a country's existing government or military authority. Though undergrounds have operated in many nations throughout history, they came to wide public attention during World War II (1939–45). They were especially effective in German-occupied countries such as Yugoslavia, Poland, France, and the Netherlands.
