Un-American Activities Committee

Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), committee of the U.S. House of Representatives formed in 1938 to investigate subversive activities in the United States. The committee (officially designated the House Committee on Un-American Activities) won notoriety after World War II for its witch-hunt investigations of alleged Communist influence in government, unions, education, and the film industry. It was renamed Committee on Internal Security in 1969, but has been largely inactive.
