Moses Coit Tyler



Tyler, Moses Coit (1835–1900), critic and historian of early U.S. literature. He was appointed professor of American history at Cornell University in 1881, the first such position in the United States. He helped to found the American Historical Association in 1884. His books include the 2-volume The Literary History of the American Revolution 1763–1783, published in 1897.
