Turnstone



Turnstone, one of two types of shore birds belonging to the sandpiper family. It characteristically uses its short bill to turn over stones in search of food. The ruddy turnstone is found in arctic regions of the world. The black turnstone is native to the Bering Sea region and migrates to southern Alaska and California for the winter.
