Turner, J(oseph) M(allard) W(illiam) (1775–1851), English Romantic landscape painter. His work is famous for its rich treatment of light and atmosphere, in oil, watercolor, or engraving. His paintings include The Fighting Téméraire (1839) and Rain, Steam and Speed (1844).
