Antony Tudor



Tudor, Antony (1909–87), English choreographer who introduced dramatic, emotional themes into U.S. ballet. Founder (1939) of the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), his works for the company include Dark Elegies (1937) and Pillar of Fire (1942). He was also ballet director of the Metropolitan Opera (1957–63) and associate director of the ABT (1974–80).
