Moise Kapenda Tshombe



Tshombe, Moise Kapenda (1919–69), president (1960–63) of the Congolese breakaway state of Katanga. Backed by Belgian interests, he unsuccessfully opposed Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and the UN. He returned from exile to be premier (1964–65) of the Congo (Zaïre). He died in prison in Algeria.
