Trust territory

Trust territory, formerly dependent territory administered under United Nations supervision. A trustee nation was responsible for developing the trust territory and assisting it to independence. The Trusteeship Council helped the General Assembly and Security Council supervise trust territories. Of the 11 trust territories (mostly former mandates of the League of Nations), the U.S.-administered Pacific Islands was the last to be terminated.
