George Macauley Trevelyan



Trevelyan, George Macauley (1876–1962), English historian who rejected the “scientific” approach to history in favor of a more humanistic and literary approach. He taught at Cambridge (1927–51) and was best known for a colorful study of Garibaldi (3 vols., 1907–11), a one-volume History of England (1926), England Under Queen Anne (3 vols., 1903–34), and English Social History (1942).
