Francis Everett Townsend



Townsend, Francis Everett (1867–1960), U.S. reformer, author of the Townsend Plan (1933), a share-the-wealth program by which citizens over 60 were to receive $200 a month, the money to be raised by a federal tax. Townsend claimed supporters of the plan numbered 5 million, but Congress rejected it.
