Arturo Toscanini



Toscanini, Arturo (1867–1957), Italian conductor, one of the greatest of his time. He became musical director of La Scala in Milan (1898) and went on to conduct the New York Metropolitan Opera (1908–14) and New York Philharmonic orchestras (1926–36). The NBC Symphony Orchestra was created for him in 1937.
