Evangelista Torricelli



Torricelli, Evangelista (1608–47), Italian physicist and mathematician who invented the barometer in 1643. He also improved the effectiveness of the telescope and the microscope. His work in the field of pure mathematics was influential in the development of integral calculus. He was inspired by the work of his friend and mentor, Galileo.
