Tipperary

Tipperary (pop. 5,000), town in southern Ireland established in the late 12th century, located on the Ara River. Its chief industry is the processing of dairy products. Its name was made famous due to the popularity of the marching song “It's a Long, Long Way to Tipperary,” sung by Allied soldiers during World War I (1914–18). Originally Tipperary was a small town encircling a castle built by the man who became King John of England.
