Tierra del Fuego



Tierra del Fuego (Spanish, “Land of Fire”), several small islands (28,476 sq mi/73,753 sq km) separated from the southern coast of South America by the Strait of Magellan. Named by Ferdinand Magellan in 1520, the islands belong to Chili and Argentina. The small population is supported by income from sheep and petroleum.
