Ticonderoga



Ticonderoga, village in northeast New York, near Lake George, site of Fort Ticonderoga, which commanded the route between Canada and the Hudson River valley. Taken (1759) by the British in the French and Indian Wars, it fell (1775) in the Revolutionary War to the Green Mountain Boys, led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold. It was recaptured (1777) by General Burgoyne. The fort is now a museum.
