Thoth, Greek name for Djhowtey, an ancient Egyptian moon god who became associated with civilization, learning, and healing. His sacred animals are the ibis and the baboon, and he is often depicted as a human with the head of an ibis or a baboon with the head of a dog. Said to be the inventor of writing, he was often considered the representative on earth and the scribe of the sun god, Re.
