Louis Adolphe Thiers



Thiers, Louis Adolphe (1797–1877), French author and diplomat. Among his writings are History of the French Revolution (1823–27), a 10-volume study, and History of the Consulate and the Empire (1845–62). He helped organize the July Revolution (1830), which opposed the rule of Charles X. He served in the government of Louis Philippe, successor of Charles X. He opposed the rule of Napoleon II in the Second Empire. Later, after the Franco-Prussian War, he served 2 years as the first president of the Third Republic of France (1871–73).
