Shirley Temple



Temple, Shirley (1928– ), U.S. child film star, later a politician. She made her movie debut at 3 and became phenomenally popular through such films as Little Miss Marker (1934) and The Little Colonel (1935). She retired from films in 1949. After working on television in the 1950s, Shirley Temple Black (her married name) took up Republican politics. She became a U.S. delegate to the United Nations (1969), ambassador to Ghana (1975), and U.S. chief of protocol (1976).
