Telegraph plant

Telegraph plant (Desmodium motorium), plant of the pea family, native to tropical Asia. It is sometimes cultivated for its unusual behavior in response to touch—the leaves droop abruptly, like the arms of a railroad semaphore signal (hence its name). The plant grows about 4 ft (1.2 m) high and bears small purple flowers.
