Renata Tebaldi



Tebaldi, Renata (1922– ), Italian operatic soprano. A major rival of Greek-American soprano Maria Callas, she was known for the beauty and purity of her tone. She made her operatic debut in Italy in 1944 and her U.S. debut in 1950. Tebaldi, who performed many roles in the repertoire of Italian opera, sang frequently at the Metropolitan Opera in New York from 1955 to 1973.
