Tartaric acid

Tartaric acid (C4H6O6), naturally derived plant acid, used extensively for making jellies, jams, and carbonated drinks. There are tartaric salts—cream of tartar, Rochelle salt, and tartar emetic. The first is used in baking powder, hard candies, and for cleaning brass. Rochelle salt is used to silver mirrors and electronically cover metals with gold or silver; tartar emetic (antimony potassium tartrate) is used in medicines. Tartaric acids and their salts are solids, colorless, and water soluble.
