Tarpon



Tarpon (Tarpon atlanticus), game fish that can survive in salt or fresh water. Tarpon of over 100 lb (45 kg) are often caught, and they can grow up to 840 lb (381 kg). The body bears large, silvery scales up to 2 in (5 cm) across, and the dorsal fin has a long ray protruding from the rear end. Tarpon live in warm seas from Florida to Brazil and also off West Africa. The eggs are laid in shallow water and the larvae grow up in stagnant lagoons and marshes.
