Kakuei Tanaka



Tanaka, Kakuei (1918–93), Japanese prime minister (1972–74). He built up a construction business, headed the Liberal Democratic Party from 1965, and held cabinet posts from 1968. He was forced to resign in 1974 because of financial misconduct and was convicted in 1983 of having accepted bribes from Lockheed Corporation.
