Tamarin

Tamarin, one of 14 monkey species belonging to the tamarin and marmoset family, native to the rain forests of Central and South America. Somewhat larger than the marmoset, it lives in groups of about 40 and uses various high-pitched calls to communicate. Tamarins are generally multicolored and grow up to 12 in (31 cm) long, excluding the tail, which may extend to 17 in (44 cm). As a result of the deforestation of the Amazon rain forest, the lion tamarin—so-called because of its long gold mane—is in danger of extinction.
