Swedenborgians



Swedenborgians, followers of the religious ideas of the Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772). A scientist and engineer, Swedenborg became a Christian mystic in 1747. He believed that the Second Coming of Christ occurred in 1757. After his death, his followers founded the Church of the New Jerusalem, first organized in London in 1787 and introduced in the United States in 1792.
