Susquehanna River

Susquehanna River, river in the eastern United States, rising in Otsego Lake in central New York state and flowing southward 444 mi (715 km) across Pennsylvania and Maryland, emptying into Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. The Susquehanna's shallow, rapid water flow and many rock obstructions make it unsuitable as a shipping waterway, but it is an important source of waterpower. Several hydroelectric and other energy plants have been built along it.
