Sucre



Sucre (pop. 88,800), city in central Bolivia, founded as La Plata in 1538 and renamed for Antonio José de Sucre in 1839. A commercial and agricultural center and the seat of the national university and the Supreme Court, Sucre is the judicial capital of Bolivia. It is 250 mi (400 km) southeast of La Paz, which is the administrative capital of the country.
