Charles Edward Stuart



Stuart, Charles Edward (1720–88), pretender to the throne of England. The grandson of James II, he was known as the Young Pretender and, in Scotland, as Bonnie Prince Charlie. After the French refused to support his cause, he rallied the Highland clans to invade England, but was defeated at Culloden Moor in 1746.
