Strait, narrow water channel that joins 2 larger bodies of water, such as an ocean or a sea. Major straits include the Bosporous Strait, the Strait of Magellan, and the Strait of Gibraltar. Considered strategically advantageous, they have been the focus of many of history's great battles.
