Leopold Stokowski



Stokowski, Leopold (Boleslawowicz Stanislaw Antoni; 1882–1977), U.S. conductor. He gained his early reputation as musical director of the Philadelphia Orchestra (1912–36), which he conducted in recording the soundtrack for Walt Disney's Fantasia (1940). He was noted for innovative orchestrations and championing modern music in his repertoire.
