Robert Louis Stevenson



Stevenson, Robert Louis (1850–94), Scottish author, essayist, and poet who was one of the most successful writers of his day. Critically acclaimed for his exceptional ability as a prose stylist, his novels of adventure and romance—among them Treasure Island (1883) and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886)—are known worldwide. He also wrote a popular book of children's poems, A Child's Garden of Verses (1885).
