Steinway



Steinway, U.S. family of piano manufacturers. Henry Engelhard Steinweg (1797–1871), who changed his name to Steinway after emigrating from Germany to the United States in 1851, founded Steinway & Sons in 1853 in New York City. It was carried on by his sons, notably Christian Friedrich Theodore (1825–89) and William (1835–96).
