Steen, Jan (c.1626–79), Dutch painter, a master of color and facial expressions. His almost 900 surviving works include jovial scenes of eating, drinking, and revelry, such as St. Nicholas' Feast and As the Old Sing, the Young Pipe; portraits; landscapes, such as The Game of Skittles; and classical and biblical scenes.
