John Stark



Stark, John (1728–1822), American Revolutionary soldier. After distinguishing himself at the battles of Bunker Hill and Trenton, he was made a brigadier general of the New Hampshire militia. Stark won a crucial battle at Bennington, Vt., and was instrumental in forcing the surrender at Saratoga. He was made a major general in 1783.
