Stamford

Stamford (pop. 102,466), U.S. city in Connecticut. Located on the Long Island Sound, Stamford is considered a suburb of New York City, a short distance away. It also is an active city in its own right, with many corporate headquarters located in the new buildings that were constructed as part of an urban renewal project begun in the 1960s. Settlers founded the city in 1641 and named it after an English counterpart. It was incorporated in 1893.
