Stag beetle

Stag beetle, also called pinching bug, beetle in the Lucanidae family. These beetles are named for the jaws, or mandibles, of the males, which greatly resemble the horns of the male deer, or stag. These mandibles may be from half to the entire length of the body, which ranges from 1.5–2 in (3.8–5 cm). A bite by a toothed mandible can cause bleeding. Stag beetles feed on tree sap, and live and breed among decomposing trees.
