Sound



Sound, in geography, any of several types of waterways, most commonly a long arm of ocean, larger than a strait or channel, that runs parallel to a mainland coast. A sound may rest between the mainland and an island or peninsula, connect an ocean and a sea, or be a fjord or lagoon.
