Somme River



Somme River, river rising in northern France near Saint-Quentin, flowing west about 152 mi (245 km) to the English Channel. The Somme was the scene of major fighting with heavy casualties in World War I (1939–45). The Somme's upper valley has canals to the Oise and Escaut rivers.
