Smelling salts

Smelling salts, chemical stimulant used to alleviate faintness. It consists of a mixture of ammonium carbonate, alcohol, and fragrance. When fumes are inhaled, nasal membranes are irritated and breathing becomes more rapid, resulting in a feeling of clear-headedness.
