Sled

Sled, transportation vehicle that moves over ice and snow on runners. Early sleds were made from joined logs. Some Native American tribes developed toboggans—sleds shaped like canoes. Today in Alaska and other ice-covered regions, sleds with thin, parallel runners pulled by dogs help to transport people and goods. Bobsleds are fiberglass-and-steel sleds ridden on special courses for speed.
