Sirenian



Sirenian, or sea cow, any of an order (Sirenia) of aquatic mammals. These large, shy animals feed on plant life in shallow tropical seas. The manatee of Florida, a sirenian, is an endangered species. The name comes from the sirens, sea creatures of Greek mythology.
