Sinai Peninsula

Sinai Peninsula, triangular desert-mountain area, nearly 150 mi (241 km) at its widest and about 230 mi (370 km) north to south, bounded by the northern arms of the Red Sea, i.e., the Gulf of Suez on the west and the Gulf of Aqaba on the east. It is believed that the Bible's Mt. Horeb, where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments, is one of the granitic southern peaks, either Jebel Serbal or Jebel Musa (Arabic, “mount of Moses”; also named Mt. Sinai).
