Silver nitrate

Silver nitrate, chemical compound (AgNO3) made from silver and nitric acid, used medically and industrially. As a medicine it helps prevent blindness in newborn babies and works as an antiseptic. In the form of lunar caustic, a crystalline mass, it helps cauterize wounds and ulcerations. The material called emulsion that coats photographic film is made from silver nitrate, which is also used in the manufacture of silver-plated mirrors and indelible ink.
