Silicon Valley



Silicon Valley, area around Sunnyvale, in the Santa Clara Valley, Calif., where many semiconductor manufacturers are located. More generally, it contains the greatest concentration of electronics industries in the United States. The region acquired the name because silicon is a material used in the fabrication of electronic equipment.
