Silicate



Silicate, any of various metallic compounds containing silicon and oxygen, generally with tetrahedral structures. This material makes up 95% of the earth's crust, including soil and rocks. Its basic structure consists of 4 oxygen atoms forming a pyramid-type shape with a silicon atom at the center. This structure may adhere to metals with positively charged ions.
