Signaling



Signaling, any of various methods of nonverbal communication. Early visual and sound signals included smoke signals, drum calls, whistles, torch fires, and buoys. Sailors position flags in specific arrangements to communicate through the international flag code. Electrical signals are transmitted through various electronic devices, including radios, radar, computers, and telephone-operated facsimile (FAX) machines.
