Anatoly Borisovich Shcharansky



Shcharansky, Anatoly Borisovich , (1948– ), Soviet mathematician and political dissident. Jailed in 1974, he was sentenced in 1978 in Moscow to 13 years in a labor camp for anti-Soviet agitation, espionage, and treason. In 1986 he was released as part of a “spy trade” and was welcomed in Israel as a hero.
