Shamrock



Shamrock, popular name in Ireland for several leguminous plants, the trifoliate leaves of which were cited by St. Patrick as a symbol of the Christian Trinity. Among the plants called shamrock are the wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella), white clover (Trifolium repens), and black medic (Medicago lupulina).
