Shamanism

Shamanism, primitive religious system centered around a shaman, or medicine man. (The word shaman is from the language of the Tungus of Siberia). In a trance state, he is believed to be possessed by spirits who speak and act through him; he is expected to cure the sick, protect the tribe, and foretell the future, among other mystical activities.
