John McAllister Schofield



Schofield, John McAllister (1831–1906), U.S. Union general in the Civil War, from 1864 commander of its Army of the Ohio in the Atlanta Campaign. He was secretary of war (1868–69) and commander of the U.S. Army (1888–95).
